At the beginning of season 2, Foster now runs the hospital as Summers finally gets that desk job in Washington City and he puts Mary in charge of running the rest of the hospital much to the frustration of Nurse Hastings and Dr. Hale.,The second storyline involves a black man named Samuel who works at the hospital. He falls in love with the laundress, Aurelia, who is trying to locate her lost son Gabriel. The third storyline is about the Green family. The southern families in Alexandria are forced to sign a pledge of allegiance to the Union or suffer the consequences. The consequences being they lose everything as the Union Army takes and takes and takes some more.
